Burton Bradstock is a village and at the same time a civil parish with just under 1000 inhabitants in the county of Dorset , England . The nearest larger town is Bridport , which is about three miles northwest.

geography

Burton Bradstock is located at a bend in the River Bride , about a kilometer from its confluence with Lyme Bay , a bay in the English Channel . The coast is than this range cliff pronounced, it belongs to the area of a UNESCO World Heritage declared Jurassic Coast .

The Domesday Book from the eleventh century gives Bridetona 28.7 households and names the Abbey of Saint-Wandrille as the owner . The name refers to the river Bride on which the village is located; he evolved into Burton over the centuries . The addition Bradstock is more recent; it serves to distinguish it from other localities of the same name and comes from Bradenstoke Abbey in Wiltshire , which was later wealthy in the parish.
