Chilcombe is a town and at the same time a rural parish ( civil parish ) in the Unitary Authority Dorset in England . It is about six kilometers east of Bridport and consists of two hamlets : the actual Chilcombe, consisting of a homestead, a church, a residential house and another agricultural property in the north and the Rudge Farm and a semi-detached house in the south.
The district , roughly rectangular in shape with a length of around two and a half kilometers in north-south and a width of around 700 meters in east-west, is bordered in the south by the river Bride and in the north by the A 35 . Adjacent communities are, from the north and then clockwise, Askerswell , Litton Cheney , Puncknowle , Swyre , Burton Bradstock and Shipton Gorge . The lowest point of the district is in the southwest corner, where the bride leaves it, at about 25 meters. From the bed of the stream to Rudge Farm, it rises only slightly at first, then more and more steeply until it reaches its highest point in the far north, Chilcombe Hill, at around 190 meters. The summit plateau of this mountain is one probably from the early of the remains of Iron Age dating Hillforts taken. It is also registered as a Scheduled Monument , as are two burial mounds from the Bronze Age on the site . As a Listed Building also been listed are the church of the 12th and the main house of the farm from the 19th century.
A local council there in Chilcombe not due to the small population, instead, if necessary citizen assemblies (parish meetings) held.
In the Domesday Book , Chilcombe is mentioned as a Ciltecome with fourteen households at the time.
In the local public transport, Chilcombe is served by an on- call bus that only runs on Wednesdays: once a month to Dorchester , otherwise to Bridport.
