West shipyard achievement badge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Westwerft performance badge was a badge of achievement of the shipyard workers of the submarine shipyards La Pallice , Brest , Saint-Nazaire and Lorient of the German navy , which was donated in August 1944 by Vice Admiral and shipyard manager Walter Matthiae and awarded from this point in time. The design of the badge goes back to the naval construction officer Fritz Fehrenberg , who, however, cannot yet be clearly identified as the creator. The badge was awarded for maintenance and repair work on submarines and for improvements to submarine machines and technology. The 32 mm high and 16.2 mm wide badge of achievement is silver and shows an open cogwheel below the sovereign badge of the Navy, through the opening of which a stylized, left-facing submarine can be seen. The back is smooth and shows a needle soldered to the national badge , which was attached to the lapel of the borrower.
