Sharpening grooves from Saint-Mard
The Wetzrillen of Saint-Mard ( French Les Polissoirs de Saint-Mard or Les polissoirs de Bruzel ) are southeast of Saint-Mard and Virton , near Arlon in the province of Luxembourg in the extreme south of Belgium .
The grooves in the blocks of pink-gray sandstone , also known locally as witch or fairy stones , show traces of intensive use. They are next to each other on a very small stream, the Ruisseau des Brûzelles, a tributary of the Vire. A trough-shaped, natural basin lies between the grooves. Other blocks are on the slopes of the "Bois de la Côte" between Saint-Mard and Ruette.
A third stone, nearby, does not appear to have been used as a whetstone.
Nearby is the Gomery pseudodolmen .
