The Wezmeh Cave ( Persian غار وزمه Ghār-e Wezme ) is a paleontological and archaeological excavation site in the province of Kermanshah in western Iran . The site was discovered in 1999 by a team of Iranian archaeologists led by Kamyar Abdi and excavated in 2001. A large number of remains of animal fossils and a human tooth from the Upper Paleolithic were discovered. The human remains were examined by Erik Trinkaus and Bruno Maureille . The fossils belong to red fox , spotted hyena , brown bear , wolf , lion , leopard , equidae , rhinoceros and other species. They were examined by Marjan Mashkour and her colleagues at the Natural History Museum in Paris .
