The Whale Skerries are a small group of islands and cliffs in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . In the Lewthwaite Strait they are immediately west of the Cape Disappointment of Powell Island .
The Norwegian whaling captain Petter Sørlle mapped them between 1912 and 1913. He named them as Hvalskjærene (Norwegian for whale skerries ). The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee translated this designation into English in 1954.
