Cape Disappointment is a cape in the center of the west side of Powell Island in the Archipelago of the South Orkney Islands .
The British sealer captain George Powell and his American counterpart Nathaniel Palmer originally named the southern end of Powell Island during their exploration trip to the South Orkney Islands in December 1821. They alluded to their unwillingness to have to break off this reconnaissance trip because of dwindling supplies and unfavorable winds. This designation has meanwhile been transferred to the chapter described here.
