Background and game material

What do you meme? is a communication game that is based in the game mechanics and the satirical, sometimes suggestive and deliberately politically incorrect content on games like Cards Against Humanity and their offshoots. The game material consists of a set of 72 large-format picture cards and 363 text cards. In the game, the other players try to create memes that are as appropriate and humorous as possible and thereby earn points.

Game flow

To prepare for the game, the text cards are shuffled and seven cards are dealt to each player. From the group of players, a player is chosen as the judge who receives the picture cards and selects one from them, which he displays face up. All players choose a humorous text card from their 7 hand cards that match the picture in their opinion and place it face down next to the picture. The judge collects all the cards and shuffles them. Then he reads them out loud one after the other and puts them down in front of him. He now decides which meme he likes best and awards a point for it, which the player who has chosen the corresponding card receives.

After the winner of the round has been determined, all cards are collected again and each player receives 7 new cards. The role of the judge is passed on to the next person and the round is played in the same way as the previous one. The game ends when a previously agreed number of rounds has been played or when a player has reached a previously agreed number of points. According to the rules of the game, the game also ends “when you are all hungry” and recommends “it's best to order a big pizza”.

As a bonus option there is the possibility to play with freestyle cards. If a player gets one of these cards in hand, all players must discard their hand cards and think of a suitable text addition to the picture card.

Expenses and reception
