  • Wortham Willows
The antagonist. He was the city's mayor and was looking for a way to revive his late wife.
  • Flying Hawk

Game principle and technology

The player takes control of Elena Elkhorn, who wants to save her father. With her follower she can access her shamanic powers; she is able to leave her body and explore the world in ghost form. So it can fly through gaps in walls and reach new places. The player can also take possession of certain objects, for example levers, in order to influence the environment. In the game, the player will find notes from ghosts that reveal new things. In order to advance in the game, the player must find items and use them with certain objects.

Production notes

The game was financed through the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter . With 750 donors and $ 20,747, the game surpassed the target of $ 15,000. Michael Johnson created a live action trailer for the game's release. Skyler Davenport dubbed a few lines for the role of Elena. The German translation is by Marcel Weyers .

reception

Hardcore Gamer's Jeremy Peeples rated the game 3.5 out of 5, saying that "Whispering Willows' slow pace is not for everyone, but it works in the game. The aim of the game is to scare you all the time, and you can do that through a dark world, a creepy atmosphere and effective sound design. "

Fist Full Of Potions gave a positive review, saying, “Overall, Whispering Willows is a fun journey and a mind-boggling one at that. It came a long way from the original Game Jam version and delivered a deeper story than expected. Although the puzzles are simple, it's worth playing. "

The game won the SIGC (Seattle Indie Gaming Competition) in 2014. It also won the OUYA CREATE Game Jam for “Most Comprehensive Game” and was a finalist in the “Grand Prize” and “Best Graphics” categories. The game was nominated for the Captivate Conference Game Design Competition in 2013 and won the Cerebral Indie Developer Grant.
