Whistling Cay is a 7.7 hectare island 270 m west of the uninhabited Mary Point peninsula on Saint John in the US Virgin Islands . It is covered with trees and reaches a height of 40 m on the cliff in the north. There is a pebble beach on the southeast side. The island and Mary Point are separated by the Fungi Passage , which reaches a depth of 6.4 meters.
Whistling Cay can be reached by boat from Cinnamon Bay , Maho Bay or Francis Bay and is a destination for divers and snorkelers .
During the 19th century the island was the location of a Danish customs post to control the passage between the British Virgin Islands in the north and the Danish West Indies .
Whistling Cay is part of the Virgin Islands National Park .
