The gallery grave Borgentreich-Großeneder was a 3000 BC. Chr built. Megalithic grave plant of the New Stone Age at Großeneder , a part of Borgentreich in Höxter ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

location

The grave was located west of Großeneder in the immediate vicinity of an older ceramic band settlement. The Hohenwepel gallery grave is 1.5 km south .

Research history

The grave was discovered in 1992 during the construction of the MIDAL- Erdgastrasse. Thereupon an archaeological excavation took place in 1992/93 . The grave was then destroyed while the route was being built. The recovered finds are now in the LWL Museum for Archeology in Herne .

description

architecture

The system was oriented north-south. When it was found, it was already so badly damaged that its original dimensions and appearance can no longer be reliably reconstructed. It had a length of at least 15 m and a width of 5 m. The chamber was built from red sandstone slabs, of which only the scuff marks and debris remained. Smaller limestone slabs were used either for wedging or as dry masonry to fill the spaces between the sandstone slabs . It was no longer possible to determine with certainty where the original entrance to the chamber was, but it is assumed to be on the northern narrow side.

Rotenberg, 4.5 km away, is believed to be the place of origin of the construction material.

Burials

Few human skeletal remains were found during the excavation. They have not yet been examined in more detail.

Additions

At least 83 Neolithic ceramic shards were found, at least one of which comes from the older ceramic settlement. In addition, 40 flint artefacts were found, which are uncertain whether they belong to the grave or the settlement.

Dating

By means of the radiocarbon method , the time when the facility was built was 4283 ± 38 BP ; 3007 ± 164 calBC can be determined.
