The White House Complex

White House Complex is the name of the four main buildings and surrounding areas used for ceremonies and serves as the seat of the executive branch of the US government .

The adjacent open spaces are used for festive and social events, including the White House Rose Garden , the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden , the North Lawn and the South Lawn .

The original building was built between 1792 and 1800. The east and west porticos were designed by Thomas Jefferson and added in 1803. In 1859 the east portico was removed, in 1902 the east wing and west wing and a modified version of the east porticos were built on the foundations of Jefferson's original from 1803.
