Who Put The Bomp , Later Just Bomp! was one of the first music fanzines . Its 21 editions appeared from 1970 to 1979. The fanzine, which appeared in the USA, later offered well-known authors such as Lester Bangs and Greil Marcus the first opportunities for publication and, thanks to its wide popularity, ensured that it helped to shape the DIY ethic of punk . Editor Greg Shaw was active in science fiction fandom in his youth , so he knew the institution of fanzines. In 1966 he founded the Bomp! Predecessor Mojo Navigator and Rock 'n' Roll News . From the Bomp! -Fanzine, Shaw developed the independent record label Bomp! Records , which he directed until his death in 2004.

The name Who Put The Bomp is borrowed from the title of a novelty song by Barry Mann from 1961, which was later covered by various punk bands such as Me First and the Gimme Gimmes due to the popularity of fanzine .
