Whose Line Is It Anyway? , sometimes short Whose Line? or called WLIIA , is an improvised and largely non-script-based comedy pseudo game show. It was originally a UK radio program that subsequently came on UK television on Channel 4 .

After the discontinuation in 1999, the US broadcaster ABC began to broadcast a US version, which continues today (as of 2017) on The CW .

Presentation

The improvisation show consists of a stage with four actors. They design characters, scenes and songs, sometimes based on suggestions from the audience or pre-defined keywords from the director. Most of the show is presented like a pseudo-competition. The director awards points at random and chooses a winner at the end of each episode to perform an improvised play based on the credits. In a typical recording, each “game” is played between one and three times, each time with different keywords and suggestions. After that, the show will be edited and only the scenes deemed best (and suitable for television broadcast) will be shown.

The German RTL show Frei Schnauze is on Whose Line Is It Anyway? ajar.

In 2004 there was a similar show in the USA called Drew Carey's Green Screen Show and it was also adopted in Hungary and Russia, and there was a very successful adaptation in Slovakia.
