Wiard Siebels (born March 16, 1978 in Aurich ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament since 2008 .

Life

Siebels completed his Abitur in 1997 at the Ulricianum grammar school in Aurich. This was followed by civil service at the district hospital in Aurich and then training as a bank and savings bank clerk at the Kreissparkasse Aurich-Norden, which lasted until 2001. He then initially worked as an employee of the Sparkasse Aurich-Norden. He then studied law with a focus on economics at the University of Osnabrück without a degree. Siebels is a member of ver.di , the Arbeiterwohlfahrt and the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe .

Siebels joined the SPD in 1993 and two years later became a member of the board of the SPD sub-district Aurich. From 2004 to 2014 he was chairman of the SPD city association Aurich. From 2006 to 2008 he was state chairman of the Jusos in Lower Saxony. In 2010 Siebels was elected deputy chairman of the SPD district Weser-Ems.

Since 1999 he has been a member of the council of the city of Aurich and since 2011 he has been a member of the district council in the Aurich district .

In the 2008 state elections, Siebels entered the Lower Saxony state parliament through a direct mandate in constituency 86 Aurich and defended the direct mandate in the 2013 and 2017 state elections. In the legislative period from 2013 to 2017, Siebels was the spokesman for his group for agriculture and consumer protection. Since the reconstitution of the Lower Saxony state parliament in October 2017, he has been the parliamentary manager of the SPD state parliament group.
