Wichernhaus (Altdorf)
The Wichernhaus in Altdorf was built from 1571 to 1575 as a grammar school, later elevated as an academy and then converted into a university . In 1925 the building was sold, used as a facility for the physically handicapped and from then on named Wichernhaus after Johann Hinrich Wichern , whereby the term is also used today for the entire facility (with several buildings). Since 1925 the special educational support center Wichernhaus belongs to the Rummelsberg institutions (today: Rummelsberger Diakonie) . Today children, adolescents and adults with physical or multiple disabilities live there.
Departments
The main departments of the Wichernhaus in Altdorf are a support center for the physically handicapped , a curative educational day care center and a workshop . Children and young people can also live in single or double rooms. Adults are also offered assisted living in their own apartments.
