Wiemecke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wiemecke is a place name occurring in the Westphalian region . It arises as a reduction of Wiem (e) ("Wiemchen") or by contracting Wiem (e) (or Wie ) and regionally frequent -becke (= "Bach"). The first word component can in turn have numerous meanings: regionally, a Wiemen is a rod (for smoking or for the chickens), How can stand for meadow, but Wiem is also derived from a personal name.
