The Trotsbach , known as Schledde in the upper reaches of the Wiemecke , is a nearly 21 km long brook on the northern roof of the Haarstrang and in the loess loam area of the Hellwegbörde . It is a left tributary of the lip .
The Trotsbach stream with a length of 8.52 km and the Wiemecke with 5.7 km are designated as association waters. In the headwaters, the stream is also known as the Kreuzbach .

As Wiemecke it rises at an altitude of 255 m above sea level. NHN northwest of Brüllingsen in the municipality of Möhnesee and keeps the name Wiemecke approximately up to the municipality boundary from Anröchte (district Altengeseke ) to Erwitte (district Seringhausen ).
From here the brook flows under the name Trotsbach through the west of the communities Erwitte and Lippstadt until it reaches north of Eickelborn at an altitude of 68 m above sea level. NHN flows into the lip from the left.
Its 20.9 km long run ends 187 meters below its source, so it has an average bottom gradient of 8.9 ‰.
Catchment area
The 54.66 km² catchment area of the Trotsbach lies in the Hellwegbörden and in the Middle Lippetal . It is drained to the North Sea via the Lippe and the Rhine .
It borders
- in the northeast to that of the Steinbach , a tributary of the Lippe
- in the east to that of the Glasebach , a tributary of the Gieseler , which also flows into the Lippe
- in the south to that of the Ruhr
- and in the west to that of the Ahse tributary of the Lippe .
The catchment area consists largely of arable land.
The catchment area in the area of the upper reaches is dominated by limestone , limestone marl and clay marl rocks from the Cretaceous period . The middle course is characterized by Quaternary silt and fine sand layers. Furthermore, it has pseudogley brown earth deposited.
Tributaries and branches
The two most important tributaries of the Trotsbach are in the area of Hellwegbörde, Ahe and Tiwecke .
- The Ahe flows east of Horn, the Tiwecke south of Böckum .
- The Tiwecke itself receives two further tributaries, Westbach and Ostbach , which both, like the Tiwecke itself, arise at Berenbrock .

Retention
As part of the flood risk management guideline , parts of the Potsbach stream are designated as flood risk areas
Nature reserve
On the lower reaches of the Potsbach stream, there is the Spybach / Gut Alpe nature reserve . In the Horn-Millinghausen area , the course of the Trotsbach was relocated and renatured (both the old and the new course are shown on the map).
flora
In the nature reserve there is wild garlic beech forest that accompanies the stream . The valley of the Wiemecke shows, where not shaped by agriculture, the typical forms of vegetation of the dry valleys of the northern Haarstrang.
