Viennese garrison march

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vienna Garrison March is a march by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 77). The work was performed for the first time on June 25, 1850 in Vienna's Volksgarten .

Remarks

The work is a further contribution of the composer to forget his sympathetic attitude towards the revolution of 1848 . This is also supported by the dedication of the work to the officers of the Vienna military garrison. This is where the title name is derived from. All too often the work does not seem to have been played afterwards. The orchestral version was lost. The CD recording mentioned below was based on a surviving piano reduction which was arranged for orchestra by Professor Ludwig Babinski .

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 2 minutes and 12 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
