WikkaWiki , often shortened to Wikka , is free wiki software programmed in PHP . A MySQL database is used to store the data .

history

WikkaWiki's predecessor was the WakkaWiki project . Its developers had temporarily discontinued it in 2003 and finally in 2004 after a brief revival of the website. Because dedicated users had released patches , suggestions for improvement, and enhancements, at least six spin-offs were formed . One of them is WikkaWiki, the first version of which was released on May 16, 2004, retaining the version numbering of WakkaWiki.

target

As with its predecessor WakkaWiki, the goal of the developers is to create a fast, easily expandable and not overloaded program. This is to be achieved by keeping the functional core of the WikkaWiki small, while the operator is able to use "actions" (plugins) and "handlers" (commands that can be applied to a page, such as duplicating the Page content to another page) to suit his needs.

Functions

WikkaWiki is the first wiki software that offers the option of integrating ( FreeMind ) mind maps into wiki pages. It is also possible to include images, Flash , RSS and HTML . Access, write and comment rights can be set individually for each page. When editing a page, it is possible to use a GUI editor. WikkaWiki provides an RSS feed for each page, one for the most recently changed pages and one for the most recently commented pages. The integration of GeSHi makes syntax highlighting for 68 different programming / markup languages possible.

criticism

Many users regard the lack of localization as a weakness - the program is currently only available for download in English.
