The smartphones from Wiko work with the Android operating system and almost all devices (including "key cell phones") have dual SIM functionality (exceptions from 2016 are: Wax 4G and UFeel Prime, both devices have only one SIM card Slot).
history
The company was founded in Marseille in 2011 with the aim of establishing a cost-effective alternative for smartphones to the manufacturers operating on the market. The devices are produced in China. The design and development department is still based in Marseille. The Chinese technology group Tinno Mobile has held the majority in Wiko since 2014.
Market situation
In 2013, the company had a market share of 7% in the French smartphone market with 1.7 million devices sold and, according to its own statements, was third in its home market in terms of total sales and market leader in online sales in May 2014; there the market share was 14.2%.
In 2014 the company expanded and sold its devices in France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Great Britain and Germany. Wiko tried to gain market share, especially in the lower market segment.
Since May 2016, Wiko has been present in more than 25 countries in Central and Western Europe, Africa and Asia.
The trade press received the models and the French brand very positively. According to most authors, the low price can only be achieved through savings in the quality of the components used, such as the camera.
equipment
Many devices have a USB OTG connection, namely a USB connection that can also be used as a host to a limited extent with a standard micro-USB socket. Most devices have exchangeable standard batteries.
