Wiko Bausoftware (short: wiko ) is a software solution that is primarily aimed at project planning and project controlling departments of medium-sized and large engineering and architecture companies. The manufacturer is the wiko Bausoftware GmbH of the same name , which is part of the 3pleP group of companies based in Freiburg im Breisgau ( Baden-Württemberg ).

Range of functions

The software offers a wide range of functions, ranging from employee creation and management, complete address and contact management, a project planning, control and evaluation or analysis tool to a wide range of offers and invoicing to web-based document management . Wiko takes into account industry-specific requirements such as the HOAI or DIN 276 to determine the corresponding fees and project-related cost tracking. Furthermore, wiko enables the administration of subcontractors, the mobile construction site documentation as well as an integration of the relevant project participants and thus the control of the relationships with external business partners.

Wiko thus serves the entire general planning area of the construction industry and thus supports corresponding companies in the organization, management and control of their projects and business units.

distribution

Since the company was founded in 1985, it can look back on over 35,000 installations with over 700 customers and thus almost 850,000 projects. Due to the great depth of content and the wide range of functions, wiko Bausoftware GmbH counts among its customers especially large German engineering and architecture companies such as Obermeyer Planen + Beraten , RKW Architektur + or Bilfinger Construction . In addition, state companies such as the State Office for Real Estate and Construction Services Rhineland-Palatinate (formerly Landesbetrieb LBB) are among the software users. Due to the increasing internationalization of your customers, the software product from wiko Bausoftware GmbH is now in use worldwide.

The software is regularly mentioned in relevant specialist journals. and is also always taken into account in industry-specific product tests. For example, in a study by the Business Application Research Center (BARC) (listed under the former name 3pleP Project Suite ) or the magazine Computer-Spezial. The software was recently also checked in an assessment by LeBihan Consulting, one of the leading consulting firms specializing in project and portfolio management solutions.

Software architecture

The wiko software runs in customer operation on a central Microsoft SQL server , which provides both the company data and the program data. The system is database-based and saves the recorded information in a large number of different tables in order to then output it again using SQL commands and display it in the user interface or, for example, write it to an Excel table via export. The other workstations in the network can address the database either via a client installed on the end device (wiko Client Server Version) or via a corresponding URL ( Uniform Resource Locator ) (wiko Web version).

Version 6.0.500 (web version) and version 5.9 (client-server version) are currently in circulation. This covers a large part of the functions of the client-server version and is constantly being expanded with additional and sometimes exclusive modules. In the long term, the web version will completely replace the client-server version.

compatibility

Wiko offers a variety of different interfaces to other programs and has also already launched software cooperations with other providers. The compatibility is not only limited to the availability and readability of the data, but sometimes extends to automated query and synchronization processes.

Interfaces

Software cooperation

In the recent past the company launched a software cooperation in order to be able to offer its customers a comprehensive industry solution. The established Diamant software was used in the area of financial accounting.

history

The company emerged from ODS GmbH, founded in 1985 by the current managing director Rainer Trendelenburg . At that time, ODS went onto the market with what is now the first software generation from wiko, with the help of which planning offices and building administrations could control their organizational projects. At that time, the focus was on functions such as employee time recording and the determination of the fees to be estimated. Further functions related to project controlling were later integrated.

In 1990 the company achieved its first major success when it was mentioned in industry-specific specialist magazines such as Computer Spezial. In this context, the company brought out the second generation of software in 1995, which was based on Microsoft Windows for the first time and specifically dealt with the topic of document management.

At the end of the 90s, wiko construction software with 10 employees could count almost 500 companies among its users. In 1999, the third software generation was presented, which has since relied on Microsoft SQL Server technology and specifically included resource management in the range of functions. In 2000 the software manufacturer was taken over by Apsis AG . Rainer Trendelenburg and his current business partner and development manager at the time, Elko Kuyper, left the company and founded the rival company 3pleP Development GmbH due to their contacts in the industry .

With the re-establishment of 3pleP Development GmbH , the fourth software generation (under the name 3pleP Project Suite ) was launched in 2001. In this version, the Windows-based software introduced, among other things, modules for project-related risk management and integrated project control . In addition, a SAP interface was introduced in 2006 , which is still in place today.

Until 2007, both 3pleP Development GmbH and Apsis AG acted together on the market, until 3pleP Development GmbH took over the weakened Apsis AG and was able to regain the rights of the wiko brand . At first, however, the software product lived on under the name 3pleP Project Suite and underwent constant further development in the years that followed.

In 2009 on September 15, 3plep Development GmbH founded the subsidiary wiko Bausoftware GmbH and merged the existing application packages into it. Since then there has only been the software brand wiko and wiko Bausoftware GmbH as a manufacturer and brand operator. In 2012, the first web version of wiko was implemented based on Microsoft Silverlight technology . With Microsoft's change of course with regard to this technology, all further developments in wiko construction software in this direction became unnecessary.

In the sixth software generation, however, Visual Basic Classic (client-server) as well as C-Sharp and HTML5 (web version) are used completely. Recently, additional functions such as project-related claims management (2013) or the project dashboard (2017) were implemented. In this way, there are regular small and large innovations in the product, the respective content of which the customers of wiko Bausoftware GmbH are informed via the corresponding support portal on the website.
