Wilbur Johnson

Wilbur Johnson (born September 15,  1974 in Philadelphia ) is a former American - British basketball player .

career

Johnson played in his hometown of Philadelphia at Saint Joseph's University from 1992 to 1996 . After he was initially only used as a supplementary player, the 2.06 meter indoor player played 31 of the 32 games as part of the initial line-up in the 1995/96 season. Johnson scored 10.5 points per match in 1995/96 and reached 10.2 rebounds per use.

He went to Great Britain and played for the Sheffield Sharks from 1997 to 2000 , then in the same country from 2000 to 2003 for the Brighton Bears . With Sheffield, Johnson won the British Basketball League (BBL) champion in 1999 and won the cup competition in 2000. He repeated the latter success in 2003 with Brighton. In the 2002/03 season he was appointed to the BBL team of the year.

In 2003 Johnson accepted a contract offer from the German Bundesliga club Gießen 46ers  , where he played under coach Chris Finch as in Sheffield . Johnson impressed the Central Hesse team with 12.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per encounter, although the 2003/04 Bundesliga season was difficult for Giessen and coach Finch was dismissed in February 2004. From 2004 to 2006 Johnson was also a Bundesliga player for EWE Baskets Oldenburg . In the Lower Saxony he was mainly used as a substitute in the interior position. He played 68 Bundesliga games for Oldenburg, in the 2004/05 season he scored 8.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game and in 2005/06 8.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

In the 2006/07 season, Johnson was under contract with AEL Larissa in the first division of Greece . He then went back to the United States and worked professionally at Saint Joseph's University, but took another offer as a player in 2008 and strengthened the Scottish Rocks in Great Britain in the 2008/09 season .
