history

Wilesco was founded in 1912 as Wilhelm Schröder GmbH & Co. Metallwarenfabrik Lüdenscheid, by Wilhelm Schröder and Ernst Wortmann. Until after the First World War, mainly aluminum cutlery was manufactured. In the early 1920s, toys in the form of household miniatures (dolls' cutlery, potties, etc.) were added. In 1950 the production of model steam engines and accessories began. The “Old Smoky” steamroller , which was produced from 1966 and is also offered as a moving locomobile , is very popular with collectors. Today Wilesco is the world's largest manufacturer of steam toys. The hallmark Wilesco originated from the name Wil h e lm S chröder GmbH & Co .
