Wilhelm Dröscher Foundation

The Wilhelm Dröscher Foundation e. V. is a registered association closely related to the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) .

The foundation is named after the former federal treasurer of the SPD Wilhelm Dröscher (1920–1977). It was established on November 25, 1977, a week after Dröscher's death. It financially supports people and institutions who need practical solidarity and help. She is guided by the memory of Dröscher, who was also called "the good man of Kirn".

According to the foundation statutes, people and institutions can be funded if

  • their personal fate or the inadequacy of publicly organized life support has led to an individual emergency and need;
  • their work in the social, scientific or artistic field contributes to a society based on freedom and solidarity;
  • their participation in a democratic and humane society requires more training and knowledge;
  • they need advice and support to realize their rights.

From 1987 to 2009 Paul Leo Giani was chairman of the foundation. Michael Dröscher has been chairman of the foundation since 2010 .

Wilhelm Dröscher Prize

Since the SPD federal party conference in 1982, the Wilhelm Dröscher Prize has been awarded every two years. The prize is awarded to special projects from the party in various categories. The number of award winners and the amount awarded are variable. In 2017, three of the party’s own projects were awarded first prize and prize money of 1,500 euros each.
