Michael Dröscher

Michael Dröscher (born October 7, 1949 in Kirn ) is a German chemist and university professor .

Education and academic background

Michael Dröscher, a son of Lydia and Wilhelm Dröscher , studied chemistry from 1968 to 1973 at the University of Mainz and received his doctorate in physical chemistry in 1975 with Gerhard Wegner . In 1975 he became a research assistant at the Institute for Macromolecular Chemistry in Freiburg.

After an interim postdoc year at IBM in San José , he completed his habilitation. a. on segmented polyetheresters in 1981 for the subject of macromolecular chemistry at the University of Freiburg and was appointed private lecturer. Since 1988 he has been an adjunct professor at the University of Münster .

Professional background

In 1982 he started at the former Hüls AG in Marl, where he initially worked as a laboratory chemist and from 1986 onwards he was head of the technical plastics department. From 1990 to 1992 he was in charge of the technical center in the Herne plant and then took over the plastics and environment department. At the end of 1997 he took over the management of the newly founded Hüls subsidiary CREAVIS Gesellschaft für Technologie & Innovation mbH, and from April 2002, as Senior Vice President, was in charge of the group division innovation management in the Corporate Center of Degussa AG . Degussa has been absorbed into the chemicals division of the Evonik Group since 2007 . From the beginning of 2008 to April 2009 he was responsible for the Innovation Management Chemicals division at Evonik Degussa GmbH. Until his retirement in November 2011, he was Senior Advisor Innovation Management Chemicals. Since June 2009 he has been the manager of the CHEMIE.NRW cluster.

Others

In 2005 and 2006 he was chairman of the German Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry ; In 2010 and 2011 he was President of the Society of German Chemists . In 2012 he was Vice President of the company.

Since 2010 he has headed the Wilhelm Dröscher Foundation named after his father .

Since January 1, 2015 he has been Secretary General and since January 1, 2017 Treasurer of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors (GDNÄ). He is also a member of the board of trustees of the MPI-P in Mainz, the LIKAT in Rostock and chairman of the administrative board of the MPI-Kofo in Mülheim.

Michael Dröscher is married and has two grown children.
