Wilhelm Pieck grant

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wilhelm Pieck Scholarship was a scholarship that was awarded in the GDR as an award to academically outstanding students if they were workers ' or farmers' children by origin .

The special scholarship was founded on January 3, 1951 on the occasion of the 75th birthday of Wilhelm Pieck , the then President of the GDR . In addition to the technical performance, excellent performance in the "social science basic course" as well as an approving assessment of the FDJ organization at the respective educational institution were necessary conditions for the award to students of the workers and farmers faculties and to technical school students.

The special scholarship, 300 marks from his foundation , replaced the basic scholarship, which was set at 180 marks in 1951 and increased to 190 marks after the ration cards were abolished. In 1981 the amount was 450 marks, for the basic scholarship 200 marks, in Berlin the basic scholarship received 15 marks more. It was given to several hundred students annually. Other special grants were the Karl Marx grant and the Johannes R. Becher grant .
