Wilhelm Barlais

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelm Barlais ( French : Guillaume Barlais ; * before 1262; † around 1305) was lord of Beirut in the Kingdom of Jerusalem by marriage .

His origin has not been passed down, and it is also unknown what kind of relationship he was with Amalrich Barlais , in particular whether he was identical to his son of the same name.

In 1277 he married Isabella von Ibelin , mistress of Beirut, widow of Hugo II of Cyprus († 1267), Hamo le Strange († 1274) and Nicolas l'Aleman († 1277). By her right he ruled as lord of Beirut until Isabella died childless in 1282 and the rule fell to her sister Eschiva von Ibelin and her husband Humfried von Montfort , lord of Tire.

After 1282, Wilhelm married Alix de la Mandelée, the daughter of Wilhelm von Mandelée , Lord of Scandaleon. He died around 1305. After his death, Alix married Ague von Bethsan († 1345/53, House of Béthune ).
