Wilhelm Benecke (entrepreneur)
Wilhelm Benecke (* 1797 ; † 1827 ) was a German entrepreneur.
In 1816, Benecke founded the oldest gymnastics club in the world, the Hamburg Gymnastics Association from 1816 .
The Berlin banker's son had come to Hamburg from Berlin. Benecke learned gymnastics from Friedrich Ludwig Jahn .
In 1819 he left the Hanseatic city and returned to his homeland.
