Wilhelm Brandes (agricultural scientist)

Wilhelm Brandes (* 1936) is a German agricultural scientist. He is emeritus at the University of Göttingen in the field of agricultural economics and rural development.

Live and act

Brandes studied agricultural science at the University of Giessen (1958–1961). He received his doctorate in 1963 and habilitated in 1969 in the field of production economics under the direction of Emil Woermann at the University of Göttingen .

From 1974 to 1976 he worked as an agricultural economist for the World Bank in Washington, DC with a focus on agricultural projects in Turkey and Afghanistan .

He completed research stays at the universities of Dijon (France), New England (Australia) , Oxford (Great Britain), Southern California (USA) and Minnesota (USA).

He was particularly interested in the methodological and methodological questions of production, investment and decision theory as well as evolutionary economics. Since 2012 he has been an honorary member of the Society for Economic and Social Sciences in Agriculture
