Wilhelm Geerken

Wilhelm Geerken (born July 11, 1881 in Horst / Holstein , † June 16, 1969 in Buxtehude ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Geerken began a commercial apprenticeship after attending primary school. He worked as a clerk until 1901 and was a soldier between 1901 and 1903. After this activity he was again employed in various companies as an assistant and traveler between 1903 and 1905. In addition, he had been working as an independent businessman since 1904. In 1906 he therefore founded his own business in Buxtehude. In World War I he was 1914-1918 war veterans.

After the end of the war he joined the SPD in 1919 and became chairman of the SPD in the Jork district and deputy chairman of the Lower Elbe sub-district. Since 1919 he was active in the Buxtehude city council and in the Jork district council. He only lost these offices in 1933 when he came to power . After 1933 Geerken was arrested several times and in 1944 was briefly imprisoned in the Farge labor education camp.

Public offices

After the end of the Second World War he was mayor of the city of Buxtehude from 1945 to 1948 . Was Geerken also a member of the appointed Hanoverian Landtag to 29 October 1946. was from August 23, 1946 He then member of the appointed Lower Saxony state parliament on 9 December 1946 to 28 March 1947. As an elected member, he moved to the Lower Saxony state parliament in first and second electoral terms from April 20, 1947 to May 5, 1955.
