Wilhelm II of Nesselrode

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelm II of Nesselrode (* before 1472, † after 1483) was Herr zu Rheydt and Stolberg from the Bergisch noble family von Nesselrode . He was the firstborn of Wilhelm von Nesselrode and his wife Margarethe von Merode- Frankenberg .

Wilhelm II von Nesselrode was married to Adriane von Arendahl. The Rheydt lordship brought this dowry into the marriage. This represented a significantly higher value than the Stolberg Castle owned by Wilhelm II . In Rheydt, Wilhelm II's father even invested 2,300 florins in renovation work.

Wilhelm II officially bore the title "Herr zu Rheydt" and not "Herr zu Stolberg", which suggests that he had made Rheydt his main residence.

Wilhelm II. Became Jülich bailiff in Benrath , Randerath and Grevenbroich .

The marriage between Wilhelm II and Adriane remained childless. For this reason, both of them transferred their property in Stolberg on May 11, 1483 to the knight Bertram von Nesselrode, who until then was only the master of Ehrenstein Castle , and his wife Margarethe von Burtscheid. The certificate shows that the castle was completed at the time it was handed over to Bertram and consisted of "Castle, house, Stolberg courtyard with castle houses, towers and gates as well as ditches and fortifications". The peculiarity of this transfer was that Bertram's marriage was itself childless and he transferred his inheritance to his nephew Bertram von Gevertshagen , who called himself Bertram von Lutzenrode , and his wife Margareta Spoir (also Spohr) on the same day . The Stolberg property of Wilhelm II changed hands twice in one day.
