Wilhelm Ott (local history researcher)

Wilhelm Ott (born April 15, 1947 in Sprendlingen ) is a German homeland researcher with a focus on the Dreieich landscape .

Life

From 1953 to 1963 he attended elementary and secondary school in Sprendlingen, then switched to the upper level of the Goetheschule in Neu-Isenburg and passed the Abitur examination there in 1966. He then studied chemistry at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . He received his doctorate in 1975 with a thesis on valence isomerizations in the group of Horst Kessler.

He spent his professional life z. Partly as a senior executive in the areas of research and development, international product management, strategic marketing in the pharmaceutical industry, including at Merck in Darmstadt . He also worked for a subsidiary in California for some time . Wilhelm Ott had been the technical director of a cooperation project with the WHO to fight schistosomiasis in African countries (Merck Praziquantel Donation Program) since 2007 , through which over 300 million children have now been treated.

After he retired in 2009, he became interested in the history of the Dreieich landscape (western district of Offenbach ), especially in historical landscape elements. Wilhelm Ott was appointed in 2010 as chairman for the registration and verification of historical boundary stones by the Hessian State Office for Soil Management and Geoinformation . In this context, he has so far documented over 1000 historical landmarks, which are now stored in various databases. But he also deals with atonement crosses , milestones or Borne and sources of his homeland. He publishes his local historical research results on his website Steine ​​in der Dreieich and on the website of the local history association Freunde Sprendlingens, of which he has been chairman since 2014. He also gives lectures on local history topics, writes articles in specialist journals and publishes books and brochures. He was awarded the City of Dreieich 2018 Culture Prize for his voluntary, outstanding cultural and historical commitment.
