Wilhelm Rupprecht (born May 15, 1886 in Stadtprozelten , † July 31, 1963 in Fürstenfeldbruck ) was a German painter and glass painter .

Life

Wilhelm Rupprecht, son of a notary from Rosenheim, studied art history in Munich until 1919 and then continued his self-study to become a glass painter. In the summer semester of 1929 Wilhelm Rupprecht was appointed by Rudolf Schwarz as a teacher of the textile class at the renowned Aachen School of Applied Arts and worked as a painter, glass painter and designer of liturgical vestments during this time. After the National Socialists' dissolution of the School of Applied Arts in 1934, he devoted himself to glass painting as a freelance artist. Important examples of his work can be found in the Corpus Christi Church in Aachen, in the Engelbertus Chapel of Cologne Cathedral and in the monastery church of Maria Laach Abbey . In 1952 the Society for Christian Art honored him with a special exhibition in Munich.
