Wilhelm Schumann (born January 18, 1896 in Münden ; † February 14, 1974 in Münden ) was a German politician ( KPD ) and a member of the Hanoverian Landtag .

Life

After finishing elementary school, Wilhelm Schumann worked in the construction industry. From 1914 to 1917 he participated in the First World War , from 1920 to 1930 he earned his living as a construction worker and as a forest worker. He was chairman of a works council and held various other positions of trust. During the Nazi era he was persecuted by the Gestapo from 1933 onwards , but continued his illegal political work until he was arrested in 1934 and sentenced to two years in prison. In 1937 he was sent to the Buchenwald concentration camp and remained there until liberation in April 1945.

Schumann joined the SPD in 1912 and was a member there until he switched to the KPD in 1920. In the KPD he took on various responsibilities. From August 23, 1946 to October 29, 1946 he was a member of the appointed Hanover State Parliament.
