Wilhelm von Arborch

Wilhelm von Arborch is mentioned as a sculptor in documents from late medieval Cologne. There as Wilhem von Aerberch, known as Beyldensnyder , he was probably active in Cologne from 1506 to 1533.

Sculpture by Wilhelm von Arborch, around 1520, in the castle church of St. Maria von den Engeln (Brühl) in Brühl

Some representations of Anna selbdritt as well as numerous other sculptures in the holdings of the Museum Schnütgen in Cologne could come from his hand. He may also have been the creator of a section of an altarpiece that has been preserved from around 1520 and depicts the Three Kings and which can now be found in the cathedral treasury . Although largely unknown today, Wilhelm von Arborch is said to have been one of the central, style-defining Cologne sculptors in the first quarter of the 16th century, according to art experts.

It can be assumed that Wilhelm von Arborch is possibly identical with the master of the von Carbenschen Memorial Foundation and thus the sculptor of seven sandstone reliefs in Cologne Cathedral.
