from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelmsdorf is a residential area in Brandenburg an der Havel and belongs to the Neustadt district .

Location and history

Wilhelmsdorf is about six kilometers southwest of Brandenburg city center.

Wilhelmsdorf was founded in 1754 as Neudorf on the old Heerstraße Brandenburg – Magdeburg and a branch to Zerbst . In the same year, King Friedrich II set up a barchent manufactory on site. In 1824 the place was given its current name. After the production of barchents was given up, it was a settlement for small farmers. In 1825 Johann Gottfried Bröse created the Krugpark, and the dahlia plantations were an attraction . The Brösedenkmal was erected in 1851 . At the end of the 19th century the "Neue Krug" was opened and the place became a destination. In 1937 the place was incorporated into Brandenburg.

A few days before the Red Army marched in in May 1945, the communist Wolfgang Bogler prevented the town from being destroyed by hoisting a white flag and organizing the surrender of the town to the liberators without a fight.
