Wilhelmseiche in Ratekau
The Wilhelmseiche in Ratekau is a pedunculate oak ( Quercus robur ) in Ratekau in the Ostholstein district in Schleswig-Holstein . The oak, protected as a natural monument , is located in the center of Ratekau in the immediate vicinity of the Ratekau field stone church .
Immediately in front of the tree is the Wilhelmsstein - a memorial stone with the letter W (for Wilhelm ) and the dates 1797 for the year of birth and 1897 for the year of the 100th birthday of the German Emperor Wilhelm I (1797–1888). The oak was planted in 1897 to commemorate the emperor's 100th birthday, to which numerous other monuments were also placed. The crown of the oak is formed by several, upwardly directed main branches that sit on an evenly grown trunk.
