Wilhelmstrasse Festival
The Wilhelmstrasse Festival , officially Theatrium, in the Hessian state capital Wiesbaden is the largest street festival in Germany with an estimated 250,000 visitors on the two days of the festival.
It takes place annually on the second weekend in June (Friday and Saturday) on Wiesbaden's Wilhelmstrasse - also called “ Rue ” by some - and in the adjacent green spaces ( Bowling Green and Warmer Damm ). In 2011, Thursday was also included, as it coincided with the holiday of Ascension Day .
Its official name is "Theatrium". This name is derived from the fact that the Wilhelmstrasse Festival first took place in 1977 on the occasion of the reopening of the Hessian State Theater after its renovation. The name “Theatrium” is derived from “ Theater ” and “ Atrium ” ( Latin for “outdoors”). “Wilhelmstrasse Festival” has become commonplace.
