For years, Ulmer was "connected to the Heilbronn handicraft", so he led the renovation of the House of Handicrafts in Heilbronn. This renovation of the House of Crafts is praised in an article by Heilbronner Voice:

“ The Heilbronn architect Willi Ulmer seems to have developed into a specialist for cozy, homely restaurants. After he was widely recognized in the House of Crafts in Heilbronn, especially with the wine bars on the ground floor, he recently created a similarly beautiful work with the conversion of the coal mill in Hergottstagl near Creglingen. The Barthel department store was also built according to his plans in 1953 as a “tall, slender, five-story department store building with a terrace attached”, with which they had set “accents on the eastern edge of Heilbronn's old town”. The building is described as follows:

“ With its narrow side facing Kiliansplatz, the house divides Klarastrasse and Kilianstrasse like a ship's bow, the side facades are windowed through. The windowless side has a beveled corner and thus closes the complex off from the avenue. "

Furthermore, in 1960 a tall building on the corner of Mannheimer- / Paulinenstraße was built according to plans by Ulmer:
