William "Billy" Birrell (born March 13, 1897 in Cellardyke , † November 1968 ) was a Scottish football player and football coach.

Career

As a player, Birrell was under contract with Raith Rovers and Middlesbrough FC . Birrell ended his football career in 1927. From 1927 to 1930 he was the coach of the Raith Rovers. From 1930 he coached the AFC Bournemouth . Birrel was then in 1935 with the Queens Park Rangers under contract. Even before the outbreak of World War II , he received an offer from Chelsea , which he also accepted. He stayed with Chelsea for seven years after the end of the great war and then finally ended his career as a coach.
