The William Donald Schaefer Building , more often the William Schaefer Building or Donald Schaefer Building , is a skyscraper in Baltimore in the US state of Maryland . The building is the third tallest building in Baltimore with a height to the roof of 150 meters. Together with the flagpole on the roof of the building, the total height is 210 m, making it the tallest building in the state of Maryland. It has 37 floors and was completed and opened in 1992. It owes its name to William Donald Schaefer , who was mayor of the city of Baltimore from 1971 to 1986 and governor of the state of Maryland from 1987 to 1996. The skyscraper was previously called the Merritt Tower.
