William Edward Shuckard
William Edward Shuckard (* 1802 or 1803 in Brighton , † November 10, 1868 in Kennington ) was a British entomologist and librarian of the Royal Society .
His father, Johann Leonhardt Schuckardt, immigrated to England from Frankfurt am Main in 1787 and ran a hotel in Brighton. Since Shuckard spoke good German, he also translated natural history books from German, such as Hermann Burmeister's Manual of Entomology .
At first he dealt with beetles, later mainly with hymenoptera . He worked on the hymenoptera that Charles Darwin had collected on the trip with the Beagle.
He was a Fellow of the Entomological Society of London .
