William F. Meggers Award

The William F. Meggers Award of The Optical Society annually for achievements in since 1970 spectroscopy awarded. It is named after the physicist William Frederick Meggers (1888-1966), who from 1914 worked at the National Bureau of Standards in the fields of spectroscopy and metrology.

Among the winners were David J. Wineland , Steven Chu and Theodor W. Hänsch Nobel Prize.

It should not be confused with the Applied Spectroscopy William F. Meggers Award from the Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS).
