Alexander Dalgarno
Alexander Dalgarno (born January 5, 1928 in London - † April 9, 2015 ) was a British physicist and astrophysicist .
Life
Dalgarno studied mathematics and atomic physics at University College London . He taught at Queen's University Belfast and went to Harvard University in 1967 . In 1980 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society . He was a Fellow of the Royal Society and a member of the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science , the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (since 1968), the National Academy of Sciences of the United States (since 2001), and the American Geophysical Union .
Dalgarno studied atomic, molecular, chemical and dynamic processes in astrophysics and aeronomy and has made important contributions to the physics of the interstellar medium .
