John Adam Fleming Medal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The John Adam Fleming Medal of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) is annually since 1962 for achievements in geophysics (geomagnetism, atmospheric electricity, Aeronomy awarded, space physics and related areas).

The laureate will be honored at the autumn meeting of the society and in the magazine Eos and, if he has been a member of the AGU for three consecutive years, will be named a fellow thereof.

It is named in honor of John Adam Fleming (1877-1956), an American geophysicist who headed the Terrestrial Magnetism Department at the Carnegie Institution in Washington DC and who became a member of the National Academy of Sciences in 1938.
