James Dungey
James Wynne Dungey ( January 30, 1923 - May 9, 2015 ) was a British physicist .
Life
Dungey studied at Magdalene College of Cambridge University and received his there Master of Arts and his Ph.D. From 1950 to 1953 he worked at the University of Sydney , from 1953 to 1954 at the Pennsylvania State University and from 1954 to 1947 at Cambridge. From 1957 to 1959 he was a lecturer at King's College in Newcastle upon Tyne (now Newcastle University ) and from 1959 to 1963 he worked at the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment in Aldermaston . In 1963 he moved to Imperial College London , where he was professor of physics from 1965 to 1984.
In 1961, Dungey proposed a connection between the solar wind and the earth's magnetosphere to explain the aurora borealis by establishing a direct magnetic connection between the two.
He married in 1950 and has a son and daughter.
