Aldermaston
Aldermaston is a town in Berkshire in southern England . In 2001 there were 921 inhabitants.
location
The town is about 12 km southwest of Reading on the A340, 2 km south of the A4. Basingstoke is 15 km to the south and Thatcham to the west is 7 km. Nearby was the RAF Aldermaston base from World War II. From 1950 the Atomic Weapons Establishment was established there .
Events
At Easter 1958, the first Easter march in history took place under the motto "Ban the bomb" from London to the Aldermaston nuclear research center, 83 kilometers away. It lasted four days.
Worth seeing
In the local church there are alabaster images of Sir George Forster († 1526) and his wife Elizabeth. On the sides, under the Gothic vault, there are smaller stowages for his 11 sons and 8 daughters.
