William Hamilton, 1908

William Hamilton ( William Frank "Bill" Hamilton ; * 1884 , † after 1908) was an American sprinter who was active at the beginning of the 20th century.

His year of success was 1908. He won

  • at the state championships over 100 yards (10.2 s) and the runner-up over 220 yards.
  • an Olympic gold medal at the 1908 Games in London as a member of the Olympic relay (200 m / 200 m / 400 m / 800 m), which was only played in London, with Hamilton as the starting runners, Nate Cartmell , John Taylor and Mel Sheppard in 3 : 29.4 min was clearly ahead of the German (silver in 3: 32.4 min) and the Hungarian team (bronze in 3: 32.5 min).

He also started in the individual races over 100 and 200 meters . He won the run over 100 meters, but then did not start again. Over 200 meters he was eliminated as second in the semifinals, as only the winners of the four semifinals made it to the finals.

In the post-Olympic year he entered again at the American championships and was over 100 yards fourth.
