William J. Murray

William Joseph Murray (* 1946 ; usually William J. Murray , also called Bill Murray ) is an American activist of the evangelical revival movement and author of religious books.

Life

William J. Murray is the son of the religious critic Madalyn Murray O'Hair and was raised atheist. He suffered from drug problems at a young age and in 1965 fathered a illegitimate daughter who was adopted by Madalyn Murray O'Hair and murdered in 1995 along with her grandmother and uncle. In 1980 Murray turned to the Christian faith and joined the revival movement. Then Madalyn Murray O'Hair broke off all contact with her son, which she later referred to as "postnatal abortion". Murray, in turn, made serious allegations against his mother. Since the early 1980s, William J. Murray Chairman of the Religious Freedom Coalition , based in Washington, DC , a conservative organization dedicated to the ideal of Christian marriage and family and against unmarried couples , same-sex marriage , abortion , pornography and prostitution begins . The organization also supports Christians in Islamic countries and promotes Christian schools in the West Bank . Murray founded the William J. Murray Evangelistic Association , which sells Bibles in the countries of the former Soviet Union .

In his two autobiographical books, My Life Without God (1982) and The Church Is Not for Perfect People (1987), Murray describes his life circumstances before and after his conversion. With Let Us Pray (1995) he propagated the school prayer , which his mother was fighting against in court , in The Pledge. One Nation Under God (2007) he describes from his point of view the importance of the Christian faith for the American nation and turns against secularization tendencies as well as the separation of religion and state and calls for resistance against non-Christian religions, especially Islam.
